Teen Therapy
Being a teenager comes with a lot of pressure: being successful academically, fitting in socially and navigating the influence of social media, making decisions about their future, and navigating family life along with an increased desire for independence.
At the same time, adolescents are going through significant brain development. The parts of the brain responsible for emotions develop more quickly than the areas responsible for planning, decision-making, and impulse control. Combined with hormonal changes, this can make emotions feel more intense and difficult to manage.
When Might a Teen Benefit from Therapy?
Maybe your teen has become more withdrawn, seems anxious more often, has lost interest in things they once enjoyed, or are struggling with friendships, motivation, or school. While some ups and downs are a normal part of adolescence, if something feels different, it is worth paying attention to.
Some of the concerns that we commonly help teens with include:
Anxiety and/or panic attacks
Social anxiety
Depression or low mood
Low self-esteem
Stress and burnout
Emotional regulation
School-related concerns
Friendship and relationship challenges
Life transitions and family changes
Our Approach to Teen Therapy
Building trust is integral when working with teenagers. We aim to create a safe space where they feel respected and genuinely heard, allowing them to feel more comfortable being themselves during the session.
We prioritize evidence-based approaches tailored to each teenager’s needs. We will work on building healthy coping skills, improving emotional regulation, strengthening communication, increasing confidence, and helping them develop a better understanding of who they are and what is going on beneath the surface.
